Omega CK859 and why this is my last review

Watches have been a huge part of my life. It’s been a 12 year old obsession, and for me who has been fascinated by the world of horology since a very young age. I guess I fell into the trap of buying and buying any and everything, impulsive purchases and buyer’s remorse is commonplace for me.
Slight disasters like missing the fedex delivery on a watch and freaking out since it was a ton of money at risk or my Laine gelidus 2 stopped working after a two months of wearing it and living in nepal it isn’t the ideal place for getting a watch fixed either, trading watches then regretting it four years later and having a little love hate relationship with a watch in the collection.
It’s an interesting hobby in the grand scheme of things, it’s obsessive and a bit hedonistic in its pursuit. It’s a hobby that is very difficult to not enjoy. I have had many great opportunities to meet amazing people through the hobby and be able to handle mind blowing pieces over the years. Watch collecting is a weird hobby, a watch that you wanted for years practically loses its value as a “grail” after you acquire it. It turns into something mundane and just another watch in the box, cause as soon as the watch is bought you begin to look for something else.

Why the back story about my history with the hobby? Cause it ties in on what the Omega CK859 numbered edition signifies to me.
For me personally the watch collection has somewhat lost its charm, it isn’t like it used to be and frankly I’m tired of the chase for the next watch. The CK859 sort of is a farewell to the chase, i dont think i want to add any new watch in the collection for the foreseeable future. I always wanted a manual wind, time only, with a subseconds dress watch and ideally with blued hands. The CK859 filled in all those boxes for me, and the best part of it is that unlike some of the more high horology pieces the omega is still durable enough to wear every single day, it’s a master chronometer, highly anti-magnetic and shock resistant.

This watch kind of signaled contentment to me, it’s about going back to just enjoying a watch without thinking about the next one to add. It’s such a charming piece that I haven’t had an instance where I’m bored of wearing it. The dial is beautifully made, sterling silver and coupled with the blued hands it has a warmth to it. It harkens back to the ck859 Omega from the 1930’s so even the Omega logo is the same font of that era. The movement is beautiful, I think omega has mastered machine finish incredibly well and the technical prowess is pretty impressive, with the co-axial escapement, double mainspring barrel and obviously being METAS certified accuracy is sublime. I guess we all eventually get to a point in watch collecting where maybe we find the watch we always wanted. For me it was more about a manual wind dress watch with subseconds and blued hands,it’s all we need to feel content with the hobby.
I kinda see myself enjoying all the watches that i own, maybe i would end up consolidating a little bit down the line but for now I just want to enjoy my watches and not think about what’s next.
